The cold sand soothes my throbbing head as I lie down on my towel. Across the water I see a part of the Toronto skyline. Lake Ontario looks calm and wind still, unlike the rumble that is going on in my head. I’m at the island in front of the coast of Toronto. The sun is shining bright, but I praise the shadow. After a night out with 3 crazy Russian girls (oddly enough no vodka), my hangover blurs my beach experience.
I like Toronto , but I have the idea that after my 4 weeks here, this city is exactly like my hometown city, without the impressive skyline. The life in summer evolves around patios. People meet each other at one of the many pubs or parks, but without the patio life, there is not that much else to do, besides a handful of museums and festivals in summer. I realised that I do need a shot of culture every now and then. And the laziness of vacationing and speaking the language fluently, leaves no challenge. I need something new.
So… I’m going to Montreal tomorrow. I found an exchange job on HelpX. I will work a couple of hours a week in a hostel and in exchange I will get food and accommodation. So it’s a perfect solution to get a head start in a new city. In the meantime I will look for a paid job.
I do feel sad for leaving my new friends behind. I’ve made some pretty great friends, so I wouldn’t mind coming back to visit them sometime. It was nice meeting you, but this won’t be the last time we meet Toronto!
