“Christmas is coming earlier each year”, they say. Usually that is true, but not for me this year. Because of the unusual warm october month, my christmas bells started ringing for the first time today. The ice-cold wind, the first party dresses displayed in the shops, but most of all because of the christmas songs.
I’m a sucker for christmas music. Unlike some people, I love to listen to the christmas music, the promises they make for beautiful holidays to come. Just hearing the warm voice of Michael Bublé, Louis Armstrong and of course Mariah Carey, who wish me a merry christmas, triggers my instinct to go buy nonsense presents, eat cinnamon stuffed food and kerststol (and I don’t even like kersstol). But I guess, like valentines day, christmas is more commercial than ever… But I don’t care, it’s mostly the feeling of this holiday time that counts!
In january, when all the decorations have been locked up in their boxes for next year, people go back to comfy unfashionable clothes (except in Paris of course) and you gained some weight from all the party snacks en hours-long dinner parties, the ordinary looks dull and naked. So usually I tend to hold on to the christmas music till the end of january. It has to be a slow transition to go back to normal.
But for the next two months I will go admire the majestic windows at Galerie Lafayette, go ice skating in Grand Palais, visit one of the many christmas markets all over Paris, but most of all, hangout and party with my friends. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I will!
